about

The duo of Frank Singer and Joe Dorris is the core of every incarnation of Cat's A Bear since 1982. The Electronic Era of the band, spanning the years between 1988 and 1995, explored the combination of live drums and guitar-piano-sax with sequenced MIDI tracks.

The electronic equipment included the Apple Mac 512 computer with Performer software running Roland and Yamaha synths and a Prophet 2002 Sampler. This elaborate setup enabled real, improvised jazz performances that brought the electronic background tracks to life. The advent of CD Recording technology also allowed for those background tracks to be transferred to disc, as they were before this gig.

Tony Stefanelli became the band's bassist early in the '90s, but the duo also performed until this last event at Gannon University. The gig was recorded, but remained in the archives until recent explorations yielded a cassette of the live tracks. While the balance is less than perfect, the playing shows the complete ease, comfort and relaxation the duo achieved with this material and its unusual presentation.

All of these songs appear on other recordings, including the two Electronic Duo recordings, Eye Of The Pyramid and 2 Live Cats, the latter of which also has the background sequences for all of the tunes on this album and Eye Of The Pyramid.

The bonus tracks include five Eye Of The Pyramid outtakes, with different takes on the guitar solos, and an original song written and sequenced by Joe Dorris called Ravine.
